(Santa Ana, California) Dr. Melvin Calvin's experiments with so-called gasoline plants detailed; process by which these plants can produce substance to be refined into gasoline outlined. Calvin's work at Lawrence Berkeley Lab in Berkeley, California, noted. [CALVIN - notes plants can be grown in semi-arid regions of California, Arizona and Texas without extra water.] Calvin's contention that this is solar energy in purest form noted; estimated cost of petroleum from projected plantations cited.
