(Studio) Warning about cancer risk involved in cooking hamburger and government efforts to reduce suspected cancer risk in bacon reported.

(DC) Suspected cancer risk created in frying bacon detailed; government decision that tests show enough risk to reduce levels of nitrite in bacon reported [Assistant Agriculture Secretary Carol FOREMAN - says bacon on market has been found to contain enough nitrite to be health hazard.] Use of nitrites in other meats outlined. Report of researchers at Washington University in Saint Louis concerning formation of mutagents by hamburger fried at high temps. and possibility that mutagents can cause cancer and scientists' suggestions for eliminating danger stated.
