(New York City) President's United Nations appearances aimed at shifting focus of United States-USSR public relations war from arms control to regional disputes featured; scenes shown. [REAGAN - praises UN.] President's speech before United Nations General Assembly tomorrow said containing proposal for USSR withdrawal from Afghanistan; details outlined on screen. [REAGAN - avoids responding to comparison of USSR occupation of Afghanistan and United States intervention in Nicaragua.] President's meeting with foreign minister Eduard Shevardnadze tonight mentioned. Gorbachev noted continuing lobbying for his arms control proposals at Warsaw Pact conference in Bulgaria.
