(Studio) Vice President Mondale's joining President Carter in calling for resignation of David Gartner from Commodity Futures Trading Commission reported Mondale's statements about receipt of Gartner's children of gift of stock in grain concern and his admission that administration and Senator knew of gift when Gartner was nominated and confirmed noted.

(DC) White House cnsl.'s office report that it knew of Gartner's situation and had concluded there was no reason to alert President Carter about it stated; Carter's alleged ignorance of affair until after Gartner's approval by Senator Agriculture Committee noted. President's call for Gartner's resignation at news conference on Monday mentioned. [CARTER - calls for Gartner's resignation.] Gartner's denial of intentions to resign, as stated to reporter Roger Peterson, given. [GARTNER - notes President asked for resignation on allegations of impropriety, rather than actual impropriety.] Senator's plans to requisition Gartner and Press Secretary Jody Powell's statements about affair cited.
