(Studio) Senate vote to extend and change Endangered Species Act noted. Recent Supreme Court decision for snail darter and against Tellico Dam project in Tennessee recalled.

(Little Tennessee River) Details given about snail darter-Tellico controversy and opposing positions of Representatives John Dingell and Robin Beard. [BEARD - feels act is used by few individuals to stop any project they oppose.] His proposed review committee to be consulted before implementation of act in any situation outlined. [DINGELL - says government has no right to destroy species.] Tellico project's opponents' view that project was bad in itself and fish issue stopped it where other efforts didn't. [TVA director David FREEMAN - states advantage fish had given to taxpayers, with regard to project.] Advantages listed.
