(NYC: Bob Abernethy) Sudden departure of USSR general secretary Mikhail Gorbachev from New York City reported due to Armenia earthquake. Gorbachev's meeting with President Reagan and Vice President George Bush recalled. [BUSH - says Gorbachev didn't know how severe damage was until later.] [USSR SPOKESPERSON - announces early departure of Gorbachevs.] Reagan and Bush noted offering condolences and aid to Gorbachev. Ethnic unrest in Armenia recalled. [GORBACHEV - (thru translator) makes closing remarks.]
