(Studio) FDA-ordered recall of baby formulas produced by Syntex Laboratories of California 3 mos. ago recalled; apparent lack of success of recall noted.
REPORTER: Frank Reynolds

(DC) [Dave HILL - discusses son's illness.] Child's illness said traced to 2 baby formulas, Neo-Mull-Soy and Cho-Free; details given. [HILL - comments.] Physician who discovered source of problem quoted re: long-term effects on children. Failure of FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and Syntex to assure total recall outlined; Syntex president Paul Friedman quoted. Representative Albert Gore, Junior, said calling for pretesting of all baby formulas, something not presently done.
