(Bethesda, Maryland: Robert Bazell) Doctors at National Insts. of Health reported performing first-ever gene therapy procedure; details given of procedure to cure young patient's ADA enzyme deficiency; scenes shown from 1977 of bubble boy "David", who died from severe combined immune deficiency. [NIH Dr. West French ANDERSON - comments.] Possible uses for muscular dystrophy, sickle-cell anemia, cancer and AIDS noted.
