(Ann Arbor, Michigan: Robert Bazell) University of Michigan's James Wilson reported replacing cystic fibrosis gene with normal gene in laboratory; Dr. Francis Collins of the Howard Hughes Institution at University of Michigan noted finding gene that causes cystic fibrosis last summer; remaining obstacles to gene therapy detailed; teenager Brian McCarthy mentioned. [WILSON, COLLINS - comment on their frustration.] First gene therapy, last week in immune disorder treatment, recalled.
