(White House: Jim Miklaszewski) The first presidential elections in Taiwan in which incumbent President Lee Teng-hui won a big victory despite China's attempts at intimidation by conducting war games in the nearby straits featured; scenes shown of celebrations and of balloting. [Three TAIWANESE - comment.] The diplomatic tightrope for President Clinton's administration because of its official one-China policy and the delicate three-way balance between China, Taiwan and the United States noted. [State Department Kent WIEDERMANN - comments.]
