(DC) Algerian intermediaries reported meeting with State Department, [State Department spokesperson John TRATTNER - says United States reply will represent same stance.] Scenes from last fall shown. Background recalled. $24 billion said demanded. Shah's wealth said continue problem. [TRATTNER - says President's word is United States guarantee of good faith.] Hostages said having no visits from outside observers.
