(Longview, Texas) Mel and Norma Gabler with staff of six said to review texts. [GABLERS - comment with regard to tents and their role as self-appointed reviewers of school books.] [Texas Education Commissioner Dr. Alton BOWEN - says Gablers have been helpful.] [McGraw-Hill spokesperson Randy MARSHALL - says some of their protests are extreme and only meet needs of a particular small group.] Stated that economics of textbook publication forces publishers to publish texts that satisfy Texas school systems and therefore they must satisfy the Gablers.
