(Studio) 1st day at work for Mayor Charles Evers.
REPORTER: Howard K. Smith

(Fayette, Mississippi) Inauguration Dance held at Natchez Town Hall because Fayette School Bd. wouldn't allow use of school gym. [EVERS - says we can rule fairly.] 1st City Council meeting held. [EVERS - tells of repealing 12-yr. old law to enforce segregation.] New Jersey fiscal experts try to solve city's lack of funds. Evers orders town cleanup, promises new jobs, crackdown on teenagers' drinking and carrying guns, and returns $75 month salary to city. Says men not responsible for picking up dead armadillos off street
