(Studio) Ford's defense of its transmission system, in light of possible recall involving millions of vehicles, noted; Chrysler and General Motors mentioned.

(DC) 1978 General Motors analysis of Ford transmission problem quoted on screen; Ford's response noted. Demonstration of Ford problem shown using cutaway model supplied by National Highway Traffic and Safety Admin. Total number of transmission complaints received and number involving Ford products listed on screen. [General Motors chairperson Thomas MURPHY - denies Ford's charge that other vehicles have same problem as theirs.] Govt. noted not recing. any reports of transmission problems since Ford changed its design.
