Word of strikes in Warsaw, Katowice, Krakow, and Gdansk noted; Lech Walesa reported refusing to negotiate with Polish government Vatican secretary state Agostino Cardinal Casaroli noted conferring with Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger. [CASAROLI - reports Vatican in contact with Polish government] Role of USSR in military crackdown discussed.
