(DC) Crowell said former chief cnsl. to Louisiana Pacific Lumber Company; controversy, involving logging in AK, examined. Senator Agriculture Committee recalled recently approving Crowell's nomination after he filed disclosure statement not mentioning his connection with company named in lawsuit. Crowell's letter to Senator Jesse Helms quoted on screen; documents said since surfacing, indicating his involvement. [Senator Patrick LEAHY - thinks committee was mislead on crucial issue.] [CROWELL - criticizes Leahy.] Probability that Leahy and other Democrats don't have votes necessary to prevent Crowell's confirmation mentioned.
