[Senator Edward KENNEDY - notes administration's civil rights record.] [MEESE - claims to support elimination of discrimination and prejudice.] Meese's relationship with Reagan and role in civil rights reversals reviewed; Bob Jones Univ., which discriminates on racial basis, recalled given back its tax exempt status by Reagan administration until Supreme Court reversed decision. Recent Grove City College case of sex discrimination also recalled. Meese's personal financial background outlined, discussed. [Senator Howard METZENBAUM - is concerned about Meese's apparent political cronyism reminiscent of Watergate.] Upcoming testimony of civil rights groups mentioned.
