(Studio) Judge G. Harrold Carswell files statement with Senator Judiciary Committee denying he opposes civil rights. Committee delays vote on Carswell's confirmation. Criticism of judge has been his mbrship. in private golf club; Nixon dismissed this charge.

(DC) Washington has famous golf clubs and famous people belong. Various DC area clubs cited, with politically prominent members mentioned. [Senator Frank CHURCH - objects to Club practice.] Cosmos Club integrated in 60's. [Carl ROWAN - tells of fight to join club.] Ofrs. of Metropolitan Club decline to discuss club policy in front of camera. David Kennedy and Walter Lippmann members of Metropolitan Club. [MAN - said has no comment on exclusion of black members from club.] [MEN - have no comment on mbrship. policy.] Few have resigned to protest whites-only policy.
