(Studio: Brian Williams) The oil rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico introduced.

(Delacroix, Louisiana: Anne Thompson) Efforts to stop the oil leak featured; scenes of oil on the water, skimmer boats, the underwater emergency valve and animation of the slick shown; details given about the risks to the bayous and wetlands. [NBC reporter Ron MOTT – says it may be months before this leak is plugged.] [NOAA Ed LEVINE†- says there will be shoreline impacts.] [Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation John LOPEZ††- describes the impact on the marsh.] Plans to drill a new well if the blowout preventer doesn’t work noted.
