(Studio) Series of expulsions and counter-expulsions by British and Soviet govts. over latest espionage incident summarized.

(Moscow, USSR ) Reaction of British community here to expulsions in retaliation for England's initial expulsion of Sovs. examined. [Reporter Mark FRANKLAND - is surprised.] Soviet public said not informed of defection of KGB official in London. [Reuters spokesperson Alan PHILPS - feels his expulsion is ridiculous.] Robin Gedye, ordered out, said interpreting expulsions as message to West from Mikhail Gorbachev. Prime Min. Margaret Thatcher's praise last year of Gorbachev recalled.
