(Milwaukee, WI) Arthur Bremer was a loner, quiet, uncommunicative. He was born and reared in Milwaukee. His parents live in 1st floor flat of lower middle-class neighborhood. Bremer lived alone in 3-room apt. Confederate flag on floor, pornographic photographs, dishes, clothing, left behind when he left 3 weeks ago. [Mother of girlfriend, Margaret PEMRICH - shocked to learn of Bremer's actions.] [Neighbor - can't judge Bremer. Says he was quiet, a regular guy.] [Former boss, Timothy BURNS - says he was an extremist, going from long hair to shaving himself bald.] Bremer purchased 38-caliber revolver January 13 at Casanova Gun Shop. It was his second gun. The first was taken from him during an arrest last November Bremer seemed lonely, seeking identity on big scale.

Handicap won't deter Wallace from speaking out on what he believes.] Childrens choir of Reverend Carl McIntyre serenades Wallace from outside hospital. 50-100 people stand vigil; his campaign workers will stand vigil tonight, watching returns from Maryland and Michigan primaries.

(NYC) Gun-control law to keep firearms out of hands of criminals and psychotics, without penalizing honest sportsmen, is so complex and politically explosive that it may never come about. 21 states require pistol permit or police check; 29 states require no check (as in WI where Arthur Bremer bought gun used on Wallace). Federal gun-control laws,passed in 1968 after assassination of Senator Robert Kennedy, ban interstate sales of hand guns and mail-order sales of most firearms, but without much effect. FBI reports in 1970, 15,800 murders in US, 52% committed with hand guns. 125 million firearms pvtly. owned in US; 35 million handguns. Opponents of gun-control laws say criminals can get guns by stealing them. Stronger laws, however, would be deterrent.
