Merriam says ITT (International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation) traded intelligence with CIA and met with White House aides in effort to prevent Chilean President Salvadore Allende from taking over ITT's Chilean holdings. ITT wanted United States to threaten Allende with economy measures against Chile. [Senator Edmund MUSKIE - asks if this threat wasn't equal to blackmail.] [MERRIAM - says Allende stole ITT (International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation) property without compensation.
