(NYC) Weng is puzzle editor of "New York Times." Speaks to high school class. [WENG - says puzzles get harder throughout week. Had puzzles about Watergate, but laid off that.] Weng loves puzzles. He chooses puzzles to be run. [WENG - always fascinated by puzzles. Puzzles must have ideas in them.] No words used with less than 3 letters; must have symmetrical pattern and 78 words. [WENG - says solver can do what he wants to with puzzle. Speed not necessary. Reads letter citing 2 mistakes and recites his reply to solver.] Weng is bachelor, works 5 days and point of Saturday, then visits sister in Morristown, New Jersey. Does puzzles on train. [WENG - says nice to do puzzles he hasn't been in on from start. Thinks solvers like to see if they can solve it and get fun out of it. They're smarter than I am.]
