(Studio) Utah board of pardons today decides not to commute death sentence of Gary Gilmore.

(UT State Prison) Gilmore appears before board to ask that execution be allowed to go through. [GILMORE - says he doesn't deserve or seek any privilege that board can grant him.] Representatives from several groups against death penalty show up, such as ACLU, Socialist Workers' party, Right-to- Life and Citizens Against Pornography. [GILMORE - says he wishes such groups would leave case alone; says they're ineffective.] Board considers decision and votes 2-1 not to commute sentence. [Board member George LATIMER - says sentence will stand.] Case will go back to Provo, Utah court for date to be set. Outside, groups say they will try to get continued stay of execution.
