(Studio) Proposal unacceptable to US. President Johnson instructs Ambassador Ellsworth Bunker to make counter offer. Johnson understands Thieu's need to prove he's not puppet. Terms to be watered down and eventually we'll all be at table. Nixon knows he's only President-elect and acting as such. If Johnson can end Vietnam war before Nixon takes over, Nixon would be delighted. Nixon not willing to be played off against Johnson. Vietnam involvement began under Eisenhower and Nixon.
